Aquarium Now Treating 55 Turtles with this Condition

dsc_1215dsc_1209

So far today, CMA has received 14 more live sea turtles from Pinellas County with “cold stun.” They were found at Honeymoon Island, Anclote Key, off the Dunedin Causeway and other local beaches. This brings the total number of sea turtles at CMA with this condition to 55. Four more are on the way, which will bring the total to 59. CMA has seen about 10 dead turtles in Pinellas County from “cold stun” so far.

If you see sea turtles swimming around fine, then do not disturb them. Only call our 24-hour stranding line at 727-441-1790 ext. 234 if the turtle does not swim away from you when you try to get it out of the water. Sometimes, turtles can be basking in the sun with their eyes closed. Please do not confuse this with “cold stun.”

It is being reported that over the past week, more than 2,000 sea turtles have been impacted with “cold stun,” due to the record-low temperatures.

Please call our stranding line if you see any sea turtles on the beach at 727-441-1790 ext. 234

Donate to help us…we are running on very limited funds.

Good morning. I am writing because my kids (16 & 21) and I are interested in helping out with your rescue efforts. We have not yet completed your volunteer orientation, however my son is studying marine biology in college and I have some medical training, if that helps. Anyhow, if we can be of assistance, please let us know……we would love to help!
